Job Title: Prior Authorization Specialist

Location: Farmington, MI (Onsite – No remote)

Industry: Healthcare

Pay: $18–$22/hr

Job Description:

The Prior Authorization Specialist plays a key role in supporting financial clearance ahead of scheduled services by verifying insurance, obtaining pre-authorizations, and ensuring a seamless patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact insurance providers via phone and web portals to verify eligibility and authorization requirements
  • Submit and track prior authorization requests for services and procedures
  • Communicate updates and issues to internal stakeholders
  • Document all communications and outcomes accurately in the EMR system
  • Collaborate with clinical and revenue cycle teams to ensure financial readiness
  • Monitor and stay current with payer protocol and policy updates

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in insurance verification and/or prior authorizations
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Familiarity with insurance portals and EMR systems
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication and multitasking abilities
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Additional Details:

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm (slight flexibility)
  • Systems used: Greenway Prime Suite (EMR), Waystar Clearinghouse
