About the Role The Marketing Legal team partners with the marketing, performance marketing, communications, & policy teams to advise on complex marketing legal issues across all products, platforms, offers, and services. The Commercial Transactions team collaborates with sourcing and business development teams globally to support procurement agreements that enable our operations. We seek an exceptional, experienced consumer protection lawyer to serve as the primary contact for the Community Operations team at Uber, handling consumer protection matters, counseling product and marketing teams on new products and campaigns. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Marketing and Consumer Protection Law, particularly FTC Section 5 Act case law, state UDAPs, promotions, offers, subscriptions, payments, earnings, pricing, and TCPA. You will work closely with teams worldwide, including Legal, Community Operations, Marketing, Product, Policy, and Communications, playing a vital role at our most sensitive consumer touchpoints, innovating and improving communication with consumers, merchants, couriers, drivers, and the public regarding our products and services. What You'll Do Serve as the global legal contact for Community Operations, supporting the Consumer Insights and Advocacy Team, and the Escalations team within Community Operations. Design and lead processes that establish a feedback loop—communicating legal risks to the Community Operations team, identifying patterns of confusion and complaints, and relaying these insights back to the Legal team. Provide ongoing legal support for Community Operations activities, including managing high-risk escalations and maintaining knowledge base playbooks. Collaborate with other lawyers, especially our Government Investigations and Special Matters team, as well as operations, product, and marketing teams, building relationships and credibility across diverse groups. Advise marketing, performance marketing, communications, and operations teams on legal issues related to marketing. Work with senior stakeholders on various team projects. Basic Qualifications: At least 8 years of experience in consumer protection and marketing law. J.D. degree and license to practice law in at least one state. Experience leading legal teams. Expertise in FTC law and State UDAPs. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with marketing legal issues and national advertising campaigns across mediums. Strong business judgment, credibility, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, collaborating effectively and working independently. Flexibility and confidence to operate in a dynamic global environment. High standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability. Enthusiasm and a proactive attitude towards Uber. For roles based in San Francisco, CA: The salary range is USD $243,000 to $270,000 annually.
